A songwriter by profession and a community educator by passion, Samuele moves seamlessly between sung, written, and spoken words. A multi-instrumentalist with a sharp pen, they have always used music as a vehicle to share their poetry. Their love of the stage was born in adolescence, performing in Montréal’s underground bars before they were even legally allowed to enter them. Their artistic approach is rooted in the belief that personal storytelling and artistic expression are powerful tools for social change.
In 2016, already riding the momentum of Z’album, their debut full-length released the previous year, Samuele’s career took off when they won the 48th edition of the Festival international de la chanson de Granby. They subsequently released Les filles sages vont au paradis, les autres vont où elles veulent, which received two ADISQ nominations in 2017. The album was also selected as a “Coup de cœur chanson” by the Académie Charles Cros.
Alongside their musical career, Samuele is actively involved as a speaker and facilitator with organizations aligned with their values, including GRIS Montréal, Camp Rock Montréal, and Fierté Montréal. They are frequently invited to participate in panels, television programs, and radio broadcasts to speak on a range of social issues.
Samuele is currently working on a multidisciplinary book-album project titled Une paillette dans l’engrenage (“A Glitter in the Machine”). The project began in 2019, during a period of professional burnout and deep questioning around gender identity. After stepping away from the stage, Samuele publicly embraced their identity as a trans and non-binary artist. Rested and at peace with themself, their desire to create returned.
Une paillette dans l’engrenage is a multidisciplinary project composed of 12 songs accompanied by a book exploring themes of joy and healing. Through the lens of their own transformation, Samuele speaks of both personal and collective revolution, set against vibrant music and infectious melodies.
