Biographie

Born in the vibrant city of Montréal, Stick&Bow is the result of the meeting between two passionate, energetic, and complementary young musicians. Awarded the prestigious 2024 Opus Prizes as Artists of the Year and for International Outreach, Stick&Bow captivates audiences with their compelling stage presence, authentic connection with listeners, carefully crafted scenography, and bold, eclectic repertoire.

With strong classical training from the CNSMD de Lyon and McGill University, Canadian marimbist Krystina Marcoux and Argentinian cellist Juan Sebastián Delgado combine their talents to embrace a wide spectrum of musical styles. Through original arrangements, their concerts revisit some of the most iconic works in history, transformed by the striking combination of marimba and cello.

Deeply committed to contemporary music, Stick&Bow continually expands the repertoire for their unique instrumentation by commissioning works from leading composers such as Luis Naón, Camille Pépin, Luna Pearl Woolf, Jason Noble, Anna Pidgorna, and Marcelo Nisinman. In 2020, they directed a film-concert centered on the music of Luis Naón in collaboration with Ensemble Paramirabo. To celebrate their fifth anniversary in 2023, they premiered Cinco!, a performance entirely dedicated to new music featuring ten commissioned works, presented in partnership with Le Vivier.

Remarkably versatile, the duo has released three albums in three years.

Their debut album, Résonance (Leaf Music, 2019), was praised by The Whole Note as “simply brilliant” and described by La Scena Musicale as “full of delightful surprises.” Their second album (2021), exploring Bach’s Trio Sonatas alongside harpsichordist Luc Beauséjour, revealed another dimension of their artistry. Their third recording, Veni, vola, veni (2022), revisits the world of Piazzolla in collaboration with the legendary Gustavo Beytelmann, composer and former collaborator of Piazzolla. Frédéric Cardin described this encounter as “a true consecration for the duo,” while Victor Hugo Morales called their interpretation of Vardarito “one of the finest ever performed.”

Their inexhaustible energy has led to numerous major performances, including a 40-concert tour with Jeunesses Musicales France (Bavela, 2022), appearances at Festival Bach Montréal and Festival du Bout du Monde in Gaspésie, representing Québec in Colombia during Francophonie Week (2023), and a 25-concert tour across France in March 2023.

Their international presence continues to grow, firmly establishing them among the most promising artists of their generation.
